advent is here

One of my favorite seasons is here. It has been a huge enjoyment of mine to mesh old traditions that I grew up with to new ones we are making as a family of four.

The past few years I have tested out various ways to celebrate advent and to teach the boys what it means and to really BE during the season. Some have been stressors and most have failed but this year is different.

I truly believe that whatever way you celebrate this season with your family is meaningful, as long as you celebrate, have peace and let hope reign in all you do. In the past I have done a book christmas countdown, envelopes full of activities and things to do each day and always moving, going and not stopping.

By the time Christmas would roll around, I would be slowly deflating, tired and ready to rest. But really momma's- this shouldn't be how we spend our season for Him!

This Christmas I invested in a beautiful advent calendar from Naptime Diaries and we have a few traditional activities we do together as a family that are sprinkled throughout the month like:

taking a drive to see lights
going to DC for the Christmas tree and dinner
donating some of the boys toys to a local salvation army
going to see Santa
Christmas parade
baking some cookies
watch Christmas movies as a family
Christmas pjs on the Eve of Christmas

We also read through the Jesus Storybook Bible for the month following this reading guide. We are keeping it simple this year and I think I found a new rhythm we can settle into for this season each year for now until the boys are a tad older.

So if you are like me and get a little stressed looking at the cute and amazing crafts on pinterest, don't want to be weary, want peace to reign in your home this season and be free of all the crafts follow our plan or make one yourself! Celebrate the HOPE and PEACE that Jesus is bringing this season and be free.

I also highly recommend watching and listening to Rachael Kincaid's talk on holidays over at the Influence Shop.
